Southern Scapes Landscaping and Garden Center is located approximately one mile from the Atlantic Ocean on Highway 501 in beautiful Myrtle Beach, South Carolina! What is growing out of my tree?
Palms are an exciting addition to many local landscapes. You may be a new palm owner, and unsure of the best care and maintenance for your tree.

Two important aspects of palm care include consistent, but well drained irrigation for the root system, and a series of appropriate fertilizer applications throughout the growing season. Clemson University further recommends application of a solution of Epsom Salt and water applied intermittently between fertilization.

Once your tree adjusts to its new home, you will begin to see new growth and changes as the tree matures. One of these changes may include the development of seed pods and/or fruit. The two photos to the far left show a Pindo Palm (top) and Sabal Palmetto (bottom) with seed development. As the seed pods change, they may look like twigs, or even develop a feather-like texture. Seeds may also change in color. The photo on the right shows the development of the Pindo Palm fruit. As the fruit ripens, it changes to a yellow-orange color. The Pindo Palm is one of the only palms in our area that produces an edible fruit, which many use to make jelly, giving the Pindo Palm its nickname, Jelly Palm. As the seeds and fruit change, they can develop a scent and attract insects. These seeds and fruit can be pruned from the palm at various stages.

We love working with homeowners, property management companies, landscapers, business owners and anyone wanting to start their landscaping design or "freshen up" their existing landscaping! We sell all of the materials, offering delivery or pick up services. This is a great option for the "do-it-yourself" customers. OR - We also offer installation of most of our palms, plants, and materials, as well. Southern Scapes has a wide variety of landscape materials available: Hardwood Mulch (Red, Black, Brown, Natural), Rubber Mulch, Tennesee Creek Rock, South Carolina River Rock, Brick Chips, Alabama Red Rock, Sand, Premium Top Soil, Fill Dirt, Processed Coquina, and many more are available for order! If you don't see it, don't worry! We can order almost any product you might be looking for. These materials are sold by the cubic yard!
